Klaashenk Blonk
Dutch, b. 1939
Klaashenk Blonk is an experienced ceramic sculptor based in Dordrecht. Initially trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, Blonk transitioned from painting to ceramics, exploring various techniques in both 2D and 3D. During the covid period, he created the "Proud" series, inspired by his travels to North Africa, Central America, Southeast Asia, and Southwest Asia. These duo sculptures blend Western and non-Western influences, featuring indigenous clay masks with acrylic paint and colorful glazed semi-abstract headdresses. Blonk's work captures the essence of his travel memories, presenting them in a unique and vibrant manner.
He has exhibited widely in the Netherlands, including notable museums like the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum, Museum Dordrecht, and the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam.
