Koo Bohnchang
Korean, b. 1953
Bohnchang Koo captures still and fragile moments, attempting to reveal the unseen breath of life. After returning to Korea in 1985, he has been working without boundaries between fine art and commercial photography. With a minimalist approach, Bohnchang Koo photographed a large number of abandoned objects that passed by in time. In the mid-1980s, documentary photography in South Korea still occupied a dominant position in the era. Bohnchang Koo's works convey that photography can select and deconstructs reality according to the needs of artistic demands instead of only expressing meanings by capturing scenes in life. From the beginning of Bohnchang Koo, the following Korean photography artists paid more attention to narrative factors in photography and the cultural relevance in their works.
