Kriszta NAGY
Hungarian, b. 1972
1991-98: Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, painting, masters: Lajos Sváby, Árpád Szabados and Dóra Maurer. 1992-94. 1998-2000: Derkovits-ösztöndíj. ~ artist in between different media (music, photography, video, film, painting). She first came to prominence as the lead singer of the alternative rock band Tereskova (also her stage name), formed in 1989 and named after the first female astronaut. Her conscious musical amateurism is accompanied by outspoken, obscene lyrics, imbued with a desire for freedom and humour. In 1995, she co-directed the video film U.F.O., co-starring as one of the main characters and singing the soundtrack. Her first work as a visual artist is a series of photographs entitled 200000 Ft, in which, evoking Rubens' Venus de Fronsac, the twentieth-century Venus revealing her bosom is shown in six photographs with various variations of her breasts. His next work is a billboard in Lövölde Square, where a photo imitating a lingerie advertisement is torn from its usual frame by the caption I am a contemporary painter. Tereskova's drawings and her most traditional oil on canvas paintings also present a distinctive expressive world in which text and image are equally important. With childlike writing, diary fragment-like sentences are applied to paintings and drawings that resemble children's drawings.
