Laura Davis
American, b. 1954
Laura Davis is a visual artist who through her art, strives to release expressive brushwork into strokes of color. Laura paints in her own way, with faith and unconventional compositions. She got to explore her passion and angst in painting through studying expressionists like De Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Cecily Brown, Pablo Picasso, Tracy Emin, Edouard Manet, Asger Jorn, Chaim Soutine, John Cage, Philip Glass music and Lauria Anderson. Laura was drawn to them in a profound way of love, empathy, and desire, forcing her to suspend disbelief in herself and embody the spirit of the free-spirited expressionist painter. Laura wants the viewer to gain awareness of the strong earnest strokes in her paintings, the scratching and scraping of paint, the emotion of the colors chosen and the energy and passion from her subconscious onto the canvas. Laura believes her paintings come from her body's natural movement so that her soul can speak.
