Biography

The themes of celebrity and scandal anchor much of Lawrence Schiller’s diverse body of work, which spans from photography and nonfiction writing to directing Oscar-winning films including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and The Man Who Skied Down Everest (1972). Schiller achieved early success as a photojournalist, publishing photographs of movie stars, athletes, and politicians in magazines and newspapers worldwide. Schiller’s most iconic images capture a nude Marilyn Monroe filming a pool scene for the motion picture Something’s Got to Give, just a few months before her death in 1962.
