Lee Baker
British, born 1969

Working in a fluorescent palette of pinks, blues, purples, and yellows, Lee Baker creates large-scale site-specific installations, murals, and paintings of cityscapes devoid of human presence, which he depicts against the backdrop of tempestuous storm clouds. His compositions address the unstoppable forces of urbanization and industrialization. Fascinated by manga and influenced by the narrative and scenic elements of films such as Tron, Baker renders his landscapes in a bold, simplified style with extreme perspectives, so that they resemble those of comic strips and animations. Baker has worked as a scenic artist for the National Theater in London and the English National Opera.
