Leslie Marcus
"Using color and gesture as my tools, I begin my paintings with a notion to express what I find
beautiful or what engages me emotionally. Light is the predominant characteristic of my work -
how it moves through the painting, sometimes accentuating the form and other times washing
over. The outcome is not preconceived. It is a journey where I find joy in the discovery and
process. The paintings express who I am at that moment, my observations, experiences, and
memories. As I paint, I take my clues from what develops on the canvas. The process of the
painting informs its direction and final creation."
Leslie Marcus has recently presented her work in group shows at Bowery Gallery and other
venues in New York City, Brooklyn, and Tokyo, Japan. In the Summer of 2023, she will
participate in La Pointe Peinte Artist Residency in Noyers sur Serein, France. She received a BFA
in Drawing and Painting from the Philadelphia College of Art and attended The New York Studio
School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. Leslie Marcus lives and works in New York City.
