Leyla Emadi
Born in Ankara in 1977, Leyla Emadi has completed her undergraduate degree in 2004 at Yeditepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts from the Department of Painting. Emadi completed her master’s degree in Painting in 2006 and her Proficiency in Art degree in 2020 at the same university. She participated in many group shows and solo exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Emadi lives in Istanbul and continues her artistic process.
Leyla Emadi takes human as the focal point in her works and aims to break the dogmas and dispel them where necessary while questioning the gender, religion, politics, ideology, and stereotypes that individuals depend on. In her works, concepts such as violence, oppression, and persecution are blended with plastic language. Iranian artist is born and spent her childhood during the period when Iran and Turkey were politically and ideologically in dark. The years of riots and endless chaos throughout the two countries with the prevalent pressures and differences of opinions are among the fundamental elements which the artist examines. Leyla Emadi thinks, making art in a society in which there is freedom of thought is her fundamental right and thus she defends this idea throughout her works.
