Born in Belgium in 1971, Lieven De Boeck studied architecture. In his practice he questions the systems of measurement and reading of the world through works that unfold like a personal archive. As such, he explores notions such as national and personal identity, original and copy or public and private space.
Duality is a fundamental element of his practice, but the artist also plays with mirrorings, distortions and connections and situates many of his works in the space between appearance and disappearance. This allows him to propose new interpretations in which societal questions and personal stories are intimately linked.
