Lim Seung kyun
South Korean, b. 1984
Lim Seung Kyun was born in Seocheon, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea in 1984. He graduated from the Department of Art Education at Hannam University in 2009 and went on to earn an MFA in Sculpture from Hongik University. Lim has a distinctive approach to studying everyday life. His research adopts a practical and empirical approach, yet it remains consistent with imaginative and unfamiliar experiments, offering an alternative perspective on the world through his artistic imagination. By thinking outside the box and engaging in a range of inventive experiments, Lim explores the depths of possibilities in crafting “events” from the mundane materials, phenomena, and circumstances encountered in familiar everyday life. However, his work, which centers on the themes of severance and fragmentation, can either offer an insight into the cross-sections of the world or disrupt continuity, venturing into the realm of contingency.
