Luka Širok
Slovene, b. 1982
Luka Širok (1982) is a Slovenian painter and multimedia artist from the Goriška region, recognized for his eclectic and dynamic approach to contemporary art. While primarily focused on painting, his practice extends to drawing, collage, printmaking, installation, and digital art, exploring the intersections of abstraction, figuration, and material experimentation.
Širok studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia under Professor Carlo di Raco, following his early education at the Max Fabiani Art School in Gorizia. During his time in Venice, he was an active member of the artistic associations Attivarte and SPA+A and continues to collaborate with Fondazione Malutta in Venice and the Slovenian Littoral Art Association (DLUSP) in Ajdovščina.
His paintings incorporate a diverse range of techniques, including oil, acrylic, pastel, spray paint, and ink, resulting in works that blend expressive gestures with conceptual depth. His installations, constructed from found objects and reassembled materials, engage with themes of perception, contemporary fragmentation, and the dissolution of grand narratives in a pluralistic society.
Širok’s work critically reflects on the complexities of modern life—how visual culture is shaped by media framing, the erosion of universal myths, the fluidity of ethical codes, and the tensions between individualism and collective experience. While his artistic evolution has embraced various styles and influences, a distinct personal language emerges across his oeuvre—a synthesis of raw energy, layered symbolism, and experimental techniques.
