Lynn Boggess’s textural paintings depict the landscape of his home in rural West Virginia. Boggess utilizes thickly impastoed strokes—made with a trowel rather than brush—and dappled planes of deep emerald and wintry white shades to give his canvases a distinct sense of place, omitting all traces of human and animal life to focus strictly on the mystery and beauty of nature. He often paints en plein air throughout different seasons and with varying light conditions. Boggess received his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Arts and has widely exhibited throughout the United States. His works are in the collections of the SAS Institute in North Carolina; the West Virginia Governor’s Mansion; and Eisai, Inc. in Tokyo.
