Marc Trujillo,
Hirschl & Adler Modern

In his signature clarity and detail, Marc Trujillo paints North American urban and suburban landscapes and interiors, focusing on sites of consumerism—such as malls and fast-food restaurants—and the sterility of modern architecture. He begins his process with on-site preparatory sketches and drawings, then creates a provisional monochromatic gray painting. Although direct observation is key to his practice, Trujillo adds synthetic features to his compositions, yielding more universal depictions of his subjects: “non-destinations, particularly North American kinds of nowhere,” as he calls them.
