Mario Rei Cannito
Italian, b. 1966
An artist is asked to be a visionary, to create an imaginative reality that penetrates us with the force of actuality.
An artist needs to know their entire inner world and to become an expressive vessel of a distinctive communicative language of emotions and energy.
In essence, the artist is also asked to be a seer of themselves.
This is what Mario Rei Cannito does with his art: he becomes a child of his ways of doing and thinking with immediacy and spontaneity; he applies inclusive freedom, and does not refrain from overturning reality in an ironic and paradoxical way.
His decade-long artistic research seeks to find the origin of creative imagination; where shapes and colours merge in order to constitute new, primordial entities.
He masters the vital energy of lively, syncopated colours, which give the perception of a suspended world teeming with life.
A self-taught painter, he followed his vocation as a pataphysicist and colourist, receiving appreciation from both critics and the public. His works are published as catalogues by Mondadori and exhibited in galleries and events in Italy and abroad, including the Dubai Expo, the Master Class of the Lacke Farben gallery in Berlin, and personal exhibitions at the Mar Museum in Ventimiglia (IM) and the museum of San Giovanni in Fivizzano (MS).
