Biography

L.A.-based artist and musician Marnie Weber is known for her multimedia conceptual project “The Spirit Girls” (2005–10), which used film, sculpture, collage, installation, and performance to explore the after-lives of a fictional all-female band that died young in the 1970s. With its exaggerated colors, tactile quality, Surrealist imagery, and fanciful narratives, Weber’s work references folk and Outsider art, the films of experimental filmmaker Kenneth Anger, and the feminist punk culture in which she came of age.
