Sculptor and performer Martha Friedman creates objects that employ an array of materials and often pose inquiries into body politics, challenging the biases we hold. Friedman has held solo exhibitions at museums and galleries in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Detroit, among other cities. She holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Yale, and was a resident at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been discussed in Artforum, Art in America, The New Yorker, and Modern Painters, among other publications. In 2017, she was named director of the visual arts program at Princeton University.
