Matthias Brunner

Matthias Brunner, recipient of the 2014 Swiss Institute Special Tribute, is one of the key figures on the international film circuit. He began his career as a critic, curator, and producer in Switzerland, but soon took his passion for cinema abroad. Since 1992, he has been the film curator of Art Basel, and in 2002, he assumed the same position for Art Basel Miami. A fixture at all major film festivals, Brunner is known for his encyclopedic knowledge of cinema, his refined eye, and his innovative approach to installing films in an exhibition space. Recent shows include St. Moritz Art Masters, St. Moritz, 2014; Magnificent Obsession - The Love Affair Between Movies And Literature, Nolan Judin, Berlin, 2013; and The magic world of the mountains in the films of Daniel Schmid, Elevation 1049, Gstaad, 2013 and Chesa Planta Museum, Samedan (Switzerland), 2013.
