Michael Adamson combines muralist, Impressionist, and even cave painting traditions in his vividly colorful oil paintings, connecting art history to studies of contemporary life and his surroundings. A graduate of the Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Adamson has cited post-war painters like Claude Monet and Gerhard Richter as sources of inspiration. Adamson’s expressive use of paint and bold colors reflect a deep appreciation for the physicality of the medium and a desire to reveal his process through gesture and action. Difficult-to-categorize paintings such as Haliburton Landscape Possibility (2006) and The Lesson of the Three Circles (2010) move between Conceptualism and Expressionism, abstraction and landscape.
