Michael Chamberlain
American
Influenced by California Impressionists and artist Edward Hopper’s paintings, Michael Chamberlain creates Impressionist landscapes, cityscapes, and waterscapes of the San Francisco Bay Area. The act of painting, whether en plein air or in his studio, has enabled Chamberlain to combine his love of nature with his interest in artistic expression. Featuring San Francisco landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge or its famous streets as in Top of Union (2015), as well as more common everyday scenes like a sunset over the Pacific, Chamberlain’s repertoire captures the beauty and energy of the unique area. He combines thick brushstrokes with masterful composition to create an emotional visual narrative. Interested in depictions of light and shadow, Chamberlain paints rapidly to infuse his work with vibrancy and life, conveying the spirit of the setting.
