Michelle Hinebrook spent years studying crystallography and faceting patterns, scrutinizing diamonds and precious gemstones through microscopes. Her kaleidoscopic, abstract paintings translate the complexity of these studies into bursts of oils and acrylics. "I’d like the viewer to have an experience of the infinite, to peer into the mysterious networks of shapes, becoming intertwined within the geometry, and then have a personal moment when the borders of the painting fall away a little, leaving them in a visionary, reflective state of mind." Beginning her compositions on a computer, she then transfers her image using an airbrush and paintbrush. Balancing the rigorous and hard-edged with the personal, she adds hand-drawn lines and stray gestures.
