Miri Segal

Israeli, b. 1965

Biography

In her evocative videos and installations, Miri Segal explores perception and investigates the divide between the real and the virtual. She is interested in questioning the connection between seeing and understanding, explaining: “I imagine not what the piece would look like but rather what it would do to the viewer.” Through multivalent phrases, like “there is no there left,” written in neon, illusionistic projections of layered images, and documentation of her participation in the virtual community Second Life (secondlife.com), Segal creates visual puzzles that expose the malleability of perception.
