Mischa Kuball
German, b. 1959
Mischa Kuball (* 1959 in Düsseldorf), conceptual artist, has been working in the public and institutional sphere since 1977, often with the medium of light. He has held the only professorship in Germany for public art at the KHM Academy of Media Arts in Cologne since 2007 and is an associate professor for media art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung / ZKM, Karlsruhe. He has received numerous scholarships and awards, including the ars viva sponsorship award from the Kulturkreis im Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie in Cologne in 1990 and the North Rhine-Westphalia sponsorship award for fine arts in 1992. In 1998, he realized the German contribution to the 24th São Paulo Biennale and received a scholarship from the Villa Massimo in Rome. In 2016, he was awarded the German Light Art Prize. Kuball has realized numerous works in public spaces and art on buildings, including for the Ruhr University Bochum, the Skulpturenmuseum Marl, and the Bergische Universität Wuppertal. With his works he is represented in solo exhibitions worldwide, most recently: documenta archiv, Kassel (2023), Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen, Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Salzburg, Jewish Museum Berlin, Kunsthaus Graz - Bix Fassade, Graz. Mischa Kuball‘s works are included in many private and public collections, among them: Jewish Museum, New York, Sprengel Museum, Hanover, Folkwang Museum, Essen, Museum Neue Kunst/ZKM, Karlsruhe, Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf, Jüdisches Museum, Berlin, Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Philara Stiftung, Düsseldorf, Skulpturenmuseum Marl, Lenbachhaus München, Diözesanmuseum Freising, Kolumba Köln.
