The dynamic yet minimalist abstract paintings of Danish painter Morten Lassen unexpectedly combine both oil and spray paints, reflecting a formal interest in contrast, texture, and color. Lassen formally studied art education at the Blaagaard Statsseminarium in Copenhagen and has focused exclusively on painting; he has been exhibiting his work in Denmark since 2003. He consistently exhibits in New York and London with Rebecca Hossack Gallery. Lassen’s meditative paintings explore the relationship between natural and digital realms, and he imagines his grid-like paintings such as Paper 30 (2017) as map-like images. Working on both Belgian linen and coated paper, he paints intuitively and without the use of preparatory sketches.
