Moshe Gershuni
Israeli, 1936–2017
Moshe Gershuni was an Israeli painter and sculptor, born in Tel Aviv, 1936.
His work combined biographical characteristics and and social-political issues.
He practiced hand painting with expressive compositions in lackers on paper or canvas. He encorporated words or text lines in his compositions with quotes from the Bible, poetry or music. Gershuni is considered next to Aviva Uri (1922-1989) as one of the most influential of first generation Israel born artists.
His work was shown in international and national institutions. To name only some: Centre Pompidou (group show), Paris 1989. Solo shows: Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, 1982, the Israel Museum, Jerusalem 1986, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv 1990, National Galerie, Staatliche Museen, Berlin 2014.
Moshe Gershuni died 2017 in Tel Aviv.
