Moshe Mirsky
Israeli, born 1952
Blue chip
Represented by internationally recognized galleries.

In his subtle paintings, Moshe Mirsky explores childhood memories and the pain of adolescence. The cartoonish figures and landscapes, soft color palette, and paucity of detail in his works belie their depth of meaning. Themes of death, childhood cruelty, and sexual awakening run throughout Mirsky’s paintings, expressed through the recurring image of a thin, pre-pubescent boy. In an untitled work from 2008, Mirsky paints the boy upside-down and half-submerged in water, with a rabbit positioned suggestively between his knees and his genitals.
