MP & MP Rosado
Spanish, b. 1971
Miguel Pablo and Manuel Pedro Rosado (b. 1971, San Fernando) live and work in Sevilla. They are twin brothers who work under the name MP & MP Rosado.
They have studied Fine Arts at the University of Sevilla and the School of Fine Arts in Athens. They received a doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Sevilla where today they work as associate professors.
Since the mid-90s, MP & MP Rosado have developed works based on the constituent mechanisms of individual speech of the subject and their environment. Their paradoxical condition as twins has allowed them to explore the notions of duality and alter ego, and the construction of the individual and collective self: “like a huge mirror in which we recognize ourselves”. Perhaps for this reason, the presence of the double is constantly occuring in their work, simulating the ambiguity of duplication, reflection and repetition.
Other pieces explore themes surrounding the relationship between form and surface language, meaning, emotion and subjective choice. In doing so, the brothers have created a refined conceptual universe of references.
They received important scholarships as the Leonardo Scholarship for Researchers and Cultural Creators granted by the BBVA Foundation 2017/2018 for the project “Body of work”, and the Pilar Juncosa & Sotheby’s and Fundació Pilar Joan Miró in Mallorca (2014-2015).
They have exhibited at the ISCP International Studio & Curatorial Program New York (2007) and they have been awarded V Premio ARCO Comunidad de Madrid (2008) and the IV Premio Iniciartede la Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía (2009). Their work is also represented within institutions including the Beca The Pollock-Krasne rFoundation, New York (2002-2003); Beca de Artes Plásticas de la Fundación Marcelino Botín de Santander (2008-2009), 7ª Becas Colección CAM de Artes Plásticas, Alicante (2009/2010), as well as VI Premio Iberoamericano Cortes de Cádiz de Creación Artística Contemporánea.
