Murakiit
Mexican, b. 1996
Carolina Ontiveros, known as Murakiit, is a digital media artist whose work explores femininity and "poor image" aesthetics through audiovisual language. Trained in Digital Media at Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión in Mexico City, she combines pixel art, collage, and GIF animation with meticulous attention to color and texture.
Her "Pixel RAID" series features 8-bit "playful drawings" inspired by anime and kawaii culture, investigating the intersection of innocence and digital aesthetics. Through glitch textures and pixel art, Murakiit examines gender binaries, heteronormativity, and misogyny.
Her work constructs virtual realities altered by anthropomorphism, the grotesque, and sensuality, reminiscent of early computer art while addressing contemporary social issues through a lens of melancholy and fantasy.
