NACER
Algerian-French, b. 1967
Nacer-Eddine Bennacer was born in Algeria, in 1967, and has been living and working in Paris for over 20 years.
The artist tackles profound questions on the evolution of the relationship between civilizations and cultures. He also looks deeply at the ambiguity that exists in human relationships and interactions. This exploration focuses on the forms of manipulation and exploitation of conflicts, both on an individual and global scale.
Is the aggressor always the one exerting his strength and power, or do political and economic forces interfere with the sentimental and the intelligible, creating the tension that lies between an ideology and its realization?
Nacer-Eddine Bennacer experiments with different techniques and media: ranging from drawing to sculpture, from paintings on Plexiglas to installations, depending on which medium best adapts to his thinking. The impact of his work relies on an instinctive and jarring style. His work derives from complex and disarming situations, sometimes tinged with violence. Behind a scrupulous and often poetic aesthetic, the artist denounces a world which has increasingly become hostage to manipulation and rationalization.
