Nat Lowell, born in Latvia, emigrated to New York City, where he worked and which he celebrated for his entire career.
Lowell studied at the Art Students League. He is one of the great chroniclers of New York City.
Like many great artists, Lowell was a teacher. He taught at Hunter College and at the New School in New York.
Lowell's works are represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Newark Museum, the New York Public Library, the New York Historical Society, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and the Library of Congress, among others.
