Nathan Walsh

Nathan Walsh is a contemporary painter whose hyperrealist cityscapes take familiar views of New York, Paris, Chicago, and other metropolises and transforms them into alternate realities free from the chaos of urban life. Walsh studied at the Liverpool School of Art and Design and received his MFA from the University of Hull. His process begins with a photograph of an urban panorama; he analyzes and adjusts the image’s perspective, scale, and architectural features before he begins work on each canvas. Walsh uses a combination of photorealist and illustrative styles, creating detailed vistas that fall somewhere between the familiar and the fantastic. Like the work of the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci, Walsh’s paintings do not adhere to pictorial conventions of perspective but possess their own internal logic.
