Unwilling: Exercises in Melancholy,
Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, Haverford College

Noa Giniger creates subtle scenarios—often with only a limited lifespan—that touch at ineffable aspects of the human condition. Her installations often include collections of similar objects, like a table covered with white horses, bookshelves full of dictionaries from various languages, or vitrines full of solar lamps—everyday objects given new meaning by their dislocation. Other works attempt to stress the tension between existence and essence, often with an ambiguous beginning and end. Such is the case of glow-in-the-dark drawings whose markings only appear when Xeroxed, the results of which then become the basis for further glow-in-the-dark drawings, and so on.
