With the cheekiness that characterizes his work and views about art and life, mixed-media artist Noah Lyon summarizes his practice as follows: “I try to work as little as possible. Minimum work, maximum results, any medium, bring it on.” With a comic-book aesthetic and an absurdist approach, he pokes fun at the art world and the real world in his punchy paintings, drawings, artist books, zines, buttons, photographs, movies, and music. Inspired by Hieronymus Bosch, his cartoonish compositions are stuffed with dysfunctional, fragile, ego-driven characters that reflect human foibles. His zines are named “Retard Riot” and “DUMB,” while “Krap King” and “I Am the Tiger” are among his artist books. Mixing high and low in everything he does, Lyon also doles out cultural criticism, together with music, as DJ Doctor Ninja.
