Norbert Kricke
German, 1922–1984
Born in Düsseldorf in 1922. Studies at Hochschule für Bildende
Künste in Berlin with Richard Scheibe. With his first space
sculptures, straight, bundled and knotted metal rods, he follows
the tradition of Russian constructivists such as Naum
Gabo. In 1961 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
in New York, participation in Kassel 1959 and 1964. In 1964 he
also participates at the Venice Biennale. Represented at the
„Salon des Réalités Nouvelles“ in Paris in 1956 . Public contracts
for the Münster opera house (1955/56), the decoration of the
new Gelsenkirchen theatre (1957), arrangement of water for
the university of Baghdad in cooperation with Walter Gropius,
and a large space sculpture in front of the County Museum of
Art, Los Angeles (1965). In 1964 professor of sculpture at the
Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, from 1972 to 1981 principal of
the academy. Kricke died in Düsseldorf in 1984.
