Nuri Bilge Ceylan

Nuri Bilge Ceylan (b. İstanbul, 1959) spent his childhood in Yenice, his paternal hometown in the North Aegean province of Çanakkale, Turkey. Having graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Boğaziçi University, İstanbul, Ceylan studied cinema at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University for two years. He began filming his first movie, Cocoon (1995); later on, his Small Town (1998) and Clouds of May (2000) have been screened at the Berlin Film Festival. With his internationally acclaimed films, Nuri Bilge Ceylan has received many awards including the Golden Palm & FIPRESCI Awards, Cannes Film Festival (for Winter Sleep, in 2014); the Asia Pasific Screen Awards, Best Directing & Grand Prix & Cinematography (for Once Upon A Time in Anatolia, in 2011); Co-winner of the Grand Prixat the Cannes Film Festival (with Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, in 2011); the Asia Pasific Screen Awards, Best Directing & Best Picture awards (for Three Monkeys, in 2008); the International İstanbul Film Festival, Altın Lale Award & Best Turkish Film & FIBRESCI Award & the Public Jury Award (2000); Berlin Film Festival, Caligari Award (1998); and the Cannes Film Festival, International Short Film Competition (1995).
