Olivier Gagnère
French, born 1952

Olivier Gagnère is said to have influenced early Memphis Group creations, working in collaboration with Italian cult designer Ettore Sottsass in Milan during the 1980s. Compared to the industrial-like production of the Memphis Group which favored laminated plastic in vibrant patterns, Gagnère's aestheic displaces elements of French furniture history with precious materials and refined palettes. His signature combination of tradition and modernity is perhaps most evident in the designer's collections for historic manufacturers like Bernardaud, Faïencerie de Gien, and Pouenat.
