Paloma Mejía
Argentine, b. 1991
Paloma Mejía was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1991. She grew up in the city of Lincoln, in the province of Buenos Aires, as the daughter of a photographer and a rural veterinarian. During her childhood, she spent time in the countryside accompanying her father, witnessing necropsies and participating in examinations, fascinated by the opportunity to touch a living fetus with her own hands. These experiences sparked her fascination with nature and had a significant impact on the development of her artistic work, which is characterized by a raw and organic approach.
After finishing high school, Paloma moved to Buenos Aires and began her studies in visual arts at IUNA in 2011. However, she left the institution after three years in search of a multidisciplinary path. During that time, she engaged in cultural management activities. In 2013, she coordinated the MALBA Joven commission of AAMALBA, and between 2014 and 2021, she collaborated with the art department of the Donde Quiero Estar Foundation. She also worked as an advisor to cultural agents and developers in the District of the Arts of GCBA between 2017 and 2018. In 2021, she obtained a degree in curatorial studies and art management from ESEADE.
Regarding her artistic production, Paloma became interested in expanding her range of techniques and developing manual skills. She traveled to France between 2013 and 2016 to train in sculpture and jewelry, incorporating these crafts into her work. Additionally, she studied jewelry at the Buenos Aires School of Jewelry and gemology with Carlos Leporace between 2018 and 2019. In 2022, she received awards and was selected for various visual arts exhibitions and salons.
Currently, Paloma lives and works between Buenos Aires and Paris, continuing her artistic practice and participating in national and international events and exhibitions.
