Paolo Masi
Italian, b. 1933
Paolo Masi was born in 1933 in Florence, where he currently works. After the first experiences in the realm of Informale of the fifties, in the Sixties, he began to work within the"transformation" of the materials. This experimentation leads him to join the Centro F/Uno group alongside Baldi, Lecci, and Maurizio Nannucci. During the Seventies, focusing working on the rhythm of the decomposition he approaches the Analytical Painting movement. In 1974 his "analytical focus" shifts to Tessiture (Sewn canvases) and to packaging Cartons which he deals with various pictorial and non-pictorial techniques. At the same time, alongside Maurizio Nannucci, he founded the non-profit collective space for Art, Zona. From 2000 this experience will turn into a new collective space under the name of "Base". Among his show, we could highlight his participation in the 1978 edition of the Venice Biennale, to Quadriennale in Rome in 1986. His works have been exhibited in various prestigious museums, in Hamburg, Belgrade, Cologne, Ferrara, Florence, Frankfurt, Gallarate, Lissone, Milan, Paris, Pistoia, Prato, Rivoli, Rovereto, Shanghai, Turin, Verona, Vienna, and many others. His works have been collected by relevant museums and private foundations.
