Paul Weiner
American, b. 1993
Painter Paul Wackers depicts domestic spaces that reside between figuration and abstraction. He is known for riotous still lifes whose pattern-dense compositions suggest the crowded interiors and landscapes of a parallel but familiar universe. Wackers received his BFA from Corcoran College of Art and Design and his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. I’d Like to Walk Around Your Mind (2015) reflects his interest in Matisse-like graphic silhouettes and Jonas Wood’s interiors alike. Wackers draws on his own relationship with personal mementos to convey his preoccupation with display. His ceramics are informed by the structures of the vessels depicted in his paintings. Wackers’s work is in the permanent collection of the Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art (MIMA) in Brussels.
