Pauline Thomas
French, b. 1981
Pauline Thomas's art practice revolves around the exploration of different mediums to establish a constantly renewed relationship with her subject. Her photography captures the inner self expression of living beings, while color plastic layers collaged on glass highlight the internal structure dynamics at work.
Through the incorporation of light within the frame, Thomas creates works that are vulnerable, reversible, and impermanent, allowing the subject to break free from the representation of the artist.
Environmentally conscious, she recycles scraps, found and unsold pieces to create new work. In this way, her practice cyclically renews itself, feeding on its own materiality.
Thomas's works boast a primary color aesthetic, with a focus on colors like Henri Matisse and Mark Rothko. Through this approach, Thomas creates a sense of emotive, metaphysical communion with her audience, that she likes to bring back to reality by repurposing plastic such as Romuald Hazoumé and Robert Rauschenberg.
