Pedro Barbeito

Since 1996, Pedro Barbeito has been working or revisiting five series of paintings, “each investigating different meeting points between painting history and digital imaging in culture,” as he has said. In his early works, Barbeito would digitally combine and manipulate images he found from scientific and technological sources, such as the NASA website, Scientific American, and anatomy textbooks; he would then laboriously paint these by hand in acrylic on canvas. He is known for using circular or ovular canvases with curved grids. Major subjects in his work include images of war in global media, the discovery of the Higgs Boson, and the development of 3D printing.
