Peter Young
American, b. 1940
Acclaimed postmodern painter Peter Young creates compositions that feature a lexicon of dots in prismatic colors. Young developed his process-oriented dot technique in 1960s New York City. After he rose to fame and attracted the attention of prominent dealers and gallerists, he emigrated to Central America. In 1969, he was included in the 31st Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary American Painting at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and received the Theodoron Award from the Guggenheim. After spending time in Costa Rica and Oaxaca, Mexico —which inspired his Oaxacan series of paintings —Young settled in Bisbee, Arizona, where he has been active in the art community since 1972. MoMA PS1 presented his first retrospective and solo exhibition at a U.S. museum in 2007.
