Rachel Phillips (b. 1983)

Rachel began photography while completing her undergraduate degree at Skidmore College. Since graduating in 2005, she has continued to work in the company of excellent mentors and friends including Brigitte Carnochan, Rod Dresser, Huntington Witherill and Kate Jordahl. Her work has been included in numerous national exhibitions, and has been published in American Photo, B&W Magazine, COLOR magazine, and LensWork. In 2010, her series Field Notes was included in Photolucida's Critical Mass Top 50.

In recent years, Rachel has collaborated with photographers Dorothy Gantenbein and Robert Kato to develop hybrid photographic techniques combining historical processes and new technologies; processes include gelatin-transfer and albumen-pigment printing. Beginning in spring 2012, Rachel has been invited by RaykoPhotoCenter to teach gelatin-transfer printing.

Rachel lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, and works out of an 8x15 foot studio built on a flatbed trailer! In addition to art, she works teaching dyslexic and homeschooled children.
