Rachel Stuckey creates playful and sinister worlds through her multimedia practice. In her web-based project, www.welcometomyhomepage.net, site visitors explore the rooms of a surreal digital dollhouse, which is formed from both online sources and elements imported from the physical world by Stuckey and other users. With each hyperlinked image or text, Stuckey questions the nostalgic conventions of domesticity. Her video It Takes All Sorts (2014) continues the artist’s critique of culture, focusing on expectations of normalcy and the power structures of health care. Set in dark woods, plastic flowers coexist with natural flora and are anthropomorphized as characters who recite dialogue from an educational film from the 1970s about hospital labor. The dreamlike visual narrative alludes to our desire to control other humans and nature alike.
