Raoef Mamedov
Azerbaijanian, b. 1956
Born on 26 January 1956 at Gjandzja, Azerbaijan.
• In 1973 Raoef Mamedov completed his secondary education and took up a study at the Agricultural Academy of Azerbaidjan. In his second year of study he was conscripted for military service in the Soviet Army.
• At first, after his military service, he worked as a locksmith from 1976 to 1980. Later on he was employed as chauffeur, and after that he worked as a social worker in a mental hospital.
• In 1980 he took up a study at the director's branch of the State Film Academy (Gerasimov-Institute). Het completed this study with excellent results in 1985.
• From 1985 he has been working as a movie-director in Moscow directing feature films and documentaries.
• With his first photographical series Raoef Mamedov surprised the international public at Art Basel in 1999 with his impressive photo project in which he allowed actors with Down’s syndrome to perform in the staged portrayal of The Last Supper, after Leonardo da Vinci’s. Ever since, the name Mamedov has become a household name in the global artworld and soon after the following series were presented: 2000 "Adam and Eve, the Story of Mankind", 2003 “The games on the window-sills”, 2005 “Pieta”, 2007 “Supper at Emmaus”, 2010 “Silence of Maria” and 2017: “Double Suicide – Friedrich Nietzsche
