Raya Kassisieh
Jordanian, b. 1991
In her work, Raya Kassisieh investigates various media, from fiber, both synthetic and natural to plaster, concrete, paint and textile. The amalgamation of her technical fashion expertise with her minimal, yet bold compositions results in flourishing lines and solids of organic shapes flowing through her constructed canvases and sculptures. With the body and what it can do with the aid of modern technology, her works embody a powerful process of capturing process, investigation and the breaking of gendered social norms. Kassisieh engages with local artisans, as well as, personal experimentation in the production of her practice to create social impact and beautifying results that interrogate the boundaries of craft and fine art, handwork and modern technology, heritage, flesh and taught production.
