Res & Constanza Piaggio
Argentine, 1957 and 1982

From 2005 to 2008, Constanza Piaggio and Res collaborated on a project titled "Conatus", a suite of lush photographic recreations of iconic works of art, suggestively altered to question the way in which images shape our understanding of ourselves and the world. Through this project, whose title is Latin for effort or perseverance, Res and Piaggio examine the implications of the persistence of images over time and across cultures. In Crista (2005), for example, the artists re-present Christ on the cross—one of the best-known images in Western history—with a young woman playing the role of Christ.
