Robert Worth

Robert Worth is a contemporary studio furniture maker who follows in the tradition of Wendell Castle, himself a follower of woodworking pioneer Wharton Esherick. Like others before him in the field, Worth focuses on sculpting wood into furniture, highlighting the natural qualities of the material he works with though simple, clean lines and structure, with special attention paid to the wood’s grain. In addition to his work as a craftsman, Worth has spent his career passing along his craft as an educator, including a period as head of the woodcrafts division of the Philadelphia College of Art. “I think of my furniture as not being the first thing you see when you enter a room,” Worth has said. “But perhaps what you remember once you have left.”
