Known for her portraits exploring interspecies relationships, photographer Robin Schwartz often presents her daughter, Amelia, posed with a wide variety of animals, from reindeer to kangaroos. People and animals appear as equals in these curious images, as in Pete (2005), where a lemur sits on Amelia’s head. Schwartz has said that being an only child and having an only child has led to a “strong fantasy world” informing her life and work. She has described her pictures as “evidence of the invented worlds we explore and the fables we enact.”
