Rodo Padilla
Mexican
Rodo Padilla, an artist from Tlaquepaque, Mexico, has dedicated his life to ceramics, a legacy passed down from his father. A graduate in industrial engineering from Guadalajara, he specialized in ceramic materials and design in Japan, Argentina, and Italy.
A renowned sculptor, he works with high-temperature ceramics and creates joyful characters, "Los Gorditos," expressing Mexican culture and the wonder of childhood. Inspired by geometric and organic shapes, he depicts the simplicity and joy of everyday Mexican life.
Despite his international training, Padilla values his country’s ancestral artisanal techniques. He combines various Mexican clays and employs traditional methods such as hand-forged molding.
His widely acclaimed work has earned him five first-place awards at the National Ceramics Prize and the Sculpture Prize at the Art-Expo in New York.
Committed to children's rights, he has created ceramic and bronze sculptures illustrating their fundamental rights, displayed at the Trompo Mágico Museum in Guadalajara. Now president of the National Ceramics Prize, he continues to promote Mexican art and identity through his creations.
