Rosy Keyser
American, b. 1974
Engrossed in the work and process of formation, Rosy Keyser investigates and challenges the physical and structural boundaries of painting. Keyser’s paintings like Rumble-O (2016) combine common materials such as house paint and aluminum with grand gestures that reference assemblage art and pop culture. Believing the natural world to be ambiguous and fleeting, Keyser emphasizes the contrasts of irrationality and rationality in her paintings by creating tension between the visual plane and the implausible materials she applies to the canvas. Focused on the process, Keyser challenges her work to go beyond painting’s natural capabilities. She received her BFA from Cornell University and her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work is in the collections at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, the Portland Museum of Art, and the Walker Art Center.
